CocoaDios, a new immersive theatrical event, will open for a limited engagement on May 5 at Brooklyn’s House of Yes. Produced and presented by Xocolatl Productions, the show is conceived and written by Chris Neuner.
CocoaDios tells the story of feathered serpent god Quetzalcoatl‘s battle with bloodthirsty sun god Nanahuatl, war god Tetzcatlpoca and romance with fertility goddess Xochiquetzal in his quest to bring cacao and civilization to earth. It is described as follows: "Told through transported Mesoamerican rituals, music, song and dance, this erotic high-energy show surrounds audiences with the scent, taste, touch, power and passion of chocolate. With an original score that blends ancient ceremonial Nahuatl rhythms with contemporary rock, electronic and regional Mexican music, performed by gods and goddesses of every chocolate hue, CocoaDios feeds all the senses." CocoDios is performed simultaneously in English and Spanish.
CocoaDios is directed and choreographed by Javier Dzul, artistic director of Dzul Dance. The creative team will also include costume designs by Darrell Thorne, Nahuatl scoring by Mesoamerican music composer Alfredo Villela, projection design by Ryan Uzilevsky, and lighting design by Daniel Alaimo.
The company will feature Ana Isabelle, Joey Calveri, and Khalid Rivera, among others.
