Heathers the Musical Will Close Off-Broadway on November 8

A North American tour is planned, launching in Baltimore in May, 2027.

Heathers the Musical will play its final performance at New World Stages on November 8. A North American tour will launch in Baltimore in May, 2027.

Based on the 1989 cult film by Daniel Waters, Heathers features a book, music, and lyrics by Kevin Murphy and Laurence O’Keefe. This production, directed by Andy Fickman, started performances in June, 2025. By its final performance, the production will have played almost 600 performances.

Heathers currently stars Isabella Esler as Veronica Sawyer, John Cardoza as Jason “J.D.” Dean, Zan Berube as Heather Chandler, Jackera Davis as Heather Duke, Ava DeMary as Heather McNamara, Jeannette Bayardelle as Ms. Fleming/Veronica’s Mom, Erin Morton as Martha Dunnstock through July 6 (Aniya Thompson starts on July 8), Chris Marsh Clark as Ram Sweeney, Cade Ostermeyer as Kurt Kelly, Adam Bashian as Ram’s Dad/Big Bud Dean/Coach Ripper, and Jimmy Ray Bennett as Kurt’s Dad/Veronica’s Dad/Principal Gowan.

The cast also features Sara Al-Bazali, Thalia Atallah, Emma Benson, Daniel DiPinto, James Caleb Grice, Louis Griffin, Devin Lewis, Kiara Michelle Lee, Syd Sider and Cecilia Trippiedi as ensemble, understudies, standbys, and swings.

The production includes choreography by Gary Lloyd, with additional choreography by Stephanie Klemons, set and costume design by David Shields, lighting design by Ben Cracknell, sound design by Dan Samson, hair design by Caitlin Molloy, and fight direction by Lisa Connell. The intimacy coordinator is Rebecca Reaney. Music Supervision is by Will Joy, with music direction by Mona Seyed-Bolorforosh, arrangements and orchestrations by Laurence O’Keefe and Ben Green, and music coordination by Kristy Norter.

TheaterMania’s review declared, “A cautionary fable from Gen X to Gen Z, Heathers is the great musical of our nihilistic age, when so many people look at the world as it is and want to burn it down.”
