Silver Belles begins performances tonight at Signature Theatre.

This brand-new musical comedy from Allyson Currin (book), Matt Conner (music and lyrics), and Stephen Gregory Smith (lyrics) is described as follows: "When Oralene, the longtime director of small town Sylva Ridge's Christmas Pageant, suddenly passes away, the Silver Belles must come to the rescue! With the spirit of Oralene looking on, the sterling-hued vixens band together, discover their talents and pull out all the stops to keep the beloved pageant alive." The musical is based on an idea by Cathy Alter and Sandra Johnson.

The cast comprises Ilona Dulaski (Berneice), Naomi Jacobson (Bo Jack), Dan Manning (Earl), Donna Migliaccio (Oralene), Nova Y. Payton (Gloria), and Peggy Yates (Ruth Ann). Eric Schaeffer directs.

"Signature continues its commitment to present the work of D.C. playwrights; Silver Belles will light up our ARK Theatre," said Schaeffer. "This new holiday musical will have audiences laughing and crying as Oralene leads the Silver Belles to produce their best holiday pageant in Sylva Ridge, Tennessee history. This fun new musical promises to be a welcome addition to the holiday landscape in Signature style."

The creative team includes Karma Camp (choreography), Warren Freeman (musical direction), James Kronzer (scenic design), Kathleen Geldard (costume design), Kelly Rudolph (lighting design), Walter Ware III (associate director), Julie Meyer (production stage manager), and Sophia Lewin Adams (production assistant).

Performances run through December 31.
