Druid Theatre Company from Ireland will bring its double-bill production of J. M. Synge’s Riders to the Sea and William Shakespeare’s Macbeth to the Irish Arts Center in New York, running February 18-March 21.

Directed by Tony Award winner Garry Hynes, the productions served as the centerpiece of Druid’s 50th anniversary season in 2025. The new staging of Synge’s drama stars Tony winner Marie Mullen, who also plays Lady Macbeth in the Shakespeare production. Marty Rea stars as Macbeth.

Set on the Aran Islands off the coast of Galway, Riders to the Sea follows a woman grappling with devastating loss as she struggles against the forces of God and the sea to protect her family. In Macbeth, Druid brings what the company describes as a visceral Irish perspective to Shakespeare’s Scottish tragedy of ambition, murder, and political upheaval.

Full casting will be announced at a later date.

Riders to the Sea, which runs approximately 25 minutes, is presented first, followed by the two-and-a-half hour Macbeth.
