PHOTO FLASH: Marilu Henner, Alan Menken, Tommy Tune Celebrate Newsies Broadway Opening

On Thursday, March 29, the Broadway production of Disney’s new musical Newsies opened at the Nederlander Theatre with Jeff Calhoun at the helm and choreography by Christopher Gattelli.

Opening night guests included Ashley Brown, Andy Cohen, Claybourne Elder, Harvey Fierstein, Marilu Henner, Alan Menken, Casey Nicholaw, Orfeh, Ashley Spencer, Tommy Tune, and Melissa Van Der Schyff.

Set in New York City at the turn of the century, Newsies, with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, and a book by Harvey Fierstein, tells the story of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged ‘newsies,’ who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets.
