Lord of the Rings to Close in London July 19

The stage musical adaptation of JRR Tolkien’s trilogy, The Lord of the Rings, will end its run at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London on July 19. At that time, it will have played 492 performances.

The show is directed by Matthew Warchus, has a book and lyrics by Shaun McKenna and Warchus, and music by AR Rahman and Finnish folk group Värttinä with Christopher Nightingale. The production is designed by Rob Howell and choreographed by Peter Darling.

The production — which began performances May 9, 2007 — is the most expensive in West End history, at an estimated cost of £12.5 million.
