The Disney musical Mary Poppins, based on the books by Australia’s P.L. Travers and the classic 1964 Walt Disney film, will open at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Melbourne, Australia in July 2010.
The production is directed by Richard Eyre, with co-direction and choreography by Matthew Bourne and additional choreography by Stephen Mear. It has a book by Julian Fellows, and uses the original film score by Robert and Richard Sherman, augmented by new songs written by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.
The Broadway production of the musical is now in its third year, while the North American tour recently completed a successful first stop in Chicago. Other international productions are planned for Holland, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Prague, Stockholm, and Budapest. Plans are also in development for productions in Korea, Japan, and Mexico.
