Tom Conti, Matthew Modine Join Cast of New Batman Film The Dark Knight Rises

Stage veterans Tom Conti and Matthew Modine have been added to the cast of the upcoming Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises, according to Variety. Christopher Nolan will direct the film, which as previously reported, will also feature Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle aka Catwoman, Tom Hardy as Bane, and Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Conti was most recently seen on stage in the Menier Chocolate Factory production of SMASH!, with prior stage credits including Whose Life Is It Anyway?, Jeffrey Bernard Is Unwell, Present Laughter, and They’re Playing Our Song. On screen, he has been seen in such films as Shirley Valentine, Reuben, Reuben, Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence, and Julie Taymor’s The Tempest.

Modine’s stage credits include The Miracle Worker on Broadway, Matthew Modine Saves the Alpacas at the Geffen Playhouse, Resurrection Blues at The Old Vic and Finishing the Picture at the Goodman. His films include Birdy, Married to the Mob, Vision Quest, Full Metal Jacket, Gross Anatomy, and Shortcuts. He received Golden Globe and Emmy Award nominations for What the Deaf Man Heard and And the Band Played On.
