Five female directors will interpret plays written by men in the eta Creative Arts Foundation’s newly announced 2009-2010 season.

The theater’s schedule begins on September 24 with the Chicago premiere of Daniel Beaty’s Resurrection, an exploration of the lives of six interconnected African-American men, to be directed by Cheryl Lynn Bruce. Kamesha Jackson will direct Gus Edward’s A Fool Such as I (opening December 3), which centers around a trio of lovers.

The theater’s producing director Kemati Porter will stage Michael Bradford’s look at three generations of men, Fathers and Sons (opening February 11), and Thomas Meloncon’s modern-day saga about the descendants of the men and women who built New Orleans, The Man Who Saved New Orleans (opening April 22), will be directed by Artisia Green. The eta season will be rounded out with Herbert III and Contributions (July 1-August 22), two one-act plays by Ted Shine directed by Phyllis Griffin.
