The recent Broadway musical will be intimately reimagined at the Boston theater.
Boston's SpeakEasy Stage Company has announced the roster of productions slated for its 2014-15 season, with one additional production to be announced at a later date.
The season will open with the Boston premiere of Richard Greenberg, Scott Frankel, and Michael Korie's musical adaptation of Far From Heaven. Based on Todd Haynes' film, Far From Heaven made its off-Broadway debut at Playwrights Horizons in summer 2013 and starred Kelli O'Hara and Steven Pasquale. Scott Edmiston will direct the SpeakEasy production, scheduled to run from September 12-October 11.
The New England premiere of Joshua Harmon's Bad Jews is next, running from October 24-November 22. The comedy had its world premiere production with Roundabout Theatre Company in October 2013. Rebecca Bradshaw will helm the Boston production in her SpeakEasy directing debut.
John Kuntz's new reality-bending comedy, Necessary Monsters, will then receive its world premiere production, running from December 5-January 3, 2015. David R. Gammons will direct. The world premiere of Ken Urban's Future Perfect, directed by M. Bevin O'Gara, will follow, running from January 9-February 7, 2015.
John August and Andrew Lippa's musical adaptation of Tim Burton's Big Fish will then make its New England premiere at SpeakEasy Stage in a more intimate version of the recent Broadway production. Artistic Director Paul Daigneault will direct the reimagined production, scheduled to run from March 13-April 11, 2015.
The final production of the season, yet to be announced, will run from May 8-June 6, 2015.
