Red Bull Theater has announced plans for the 2018 Short New Play Festival, the company's eighth annual festival of 10-minute plays of heightened language and classic themes. The festival event, which will take place July 16, will feature two brand-new commissions from Tina Howe and Doug Wright, alongside six brand-new plays chosen from hundreds of submissions from playwrights across the country.

Using the theme "The Language of Love," writers were asked to submit a short play of no more than 10 minutes in length that makes use of any, or all, of the following: heightened language or verse; a classical theme or style; a classical story. This year's chosen writers are Fred Dennehy, Anya Martin, Amanda Quaid, Aubrey Saverino, Samara Weiss, and Daniel Wilson.

Each year, Red Bull Theater selects "new works of heightened language and classical themes" from over 300 submissions and commission two for the Short New Play Festival. Red Bull Theater aims to embrace "the imagination of theatergoers through intimate, imaginative productions of great classic stories from all eras and cultures."
