Whoopi Goldberg will participate in a panel discussion held in conjunction with a preview screening of the new Masterpiece production of The Diary of Anne Frank to be held on April 6 at the 92nd Street Y. The new film, which features a screenplay by Deborah Moggach and stars Ellie Kendrick, will be seen on PBS on April 11, Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Kendrick will also participate in the panel as will Masterpiece executive producer Rebecca Eaton and Francine Prose, author of Anne Frank: The Book, the Life, the Afterlife. The panelists will discuss not only the film, but also Anne Frank as an icon, a teenage girl with typical teenage issues and a gifted, if underappreciated writer. The screening of the film will precede the panel.
Goldberg received a Drama Desk and Theatre World Award for her 1985 Broadway solo show Whoopi Goldberg. She has also starred on Broadway in Xanadu, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, and another solo show, Whoopi. She has won numerous awards during her career including the Grammy, Golden Globe, as well as the Academy Award for Ghost, and hosted both the Tony Awards and the Academy Awards. Most recently, she received a Daytime Emmy for her work as co-host of The View.
