The Acting Company Announces Full 2017-18 New York City Season

The Acting Company has announced its 2017-18 New York City season.

The season will begin with Love's Labour's Lost, in a coproduction with the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival directed by the company's artistic director, Ian Belknap. The production will not only be staged at the festival itself (August 14-29), but it will tour through Hudson Valley at various locations August 12-September 2, and then make its way through New York City schools September 18-29.

Marcus Gardley's X: Or, Betty Shabazz v. The Nation will follow, in a production directed by Belknap January 13-February 25 at the Theatre at St. Clement's. Gardley's historical drama — which previously played in spring 2017 at The New Victory Theater — is described as a lyrical exploration of "the assassination of Malcolm X — both the story we think we know and illuminating details that have seldom been shared."

Finally, the company closes out the season with another Shakespeare play: Twelfth Night, in a coproduction with Delaware's Resident Ensemble Players directed by Maria Aitken and running May 10-27 at Polonsky Shakespeare Center.

Founded in 1972 by Oscar winner John Houseman and Margot Harley from the first graduating class of the Drama Division of the Juilliard School, the Acting Company is the only permanent, professional touring repertory company dedicated to the development of classical actors.
