Sting to Star in New Production of The Last Ship in Los Angeles

Multiple hits directly from Broadway will be on tap as part of Center Theater Group's 2019-2020 season at the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles.

Kicking off the season are two solo shows: John Leguizamo's Latin History for Morons and Mike Birbiglia's The New One. Latin History, directed by Tony Taccone, will run September 5-October 20, with Seth Barrish's production of The New One taking the stage October 23-November 24. The New One features sets by Beowulf Boritt, lighting by Aaron Copp, sound by Leon Rothenberg, and additional writing by Jennifer Hope Stein.

For the holiday season, New Adventures will present a revival of Matthew Bourne's acclaimed, all-male production of Swan Lake, featuring music by Tchaikovsky, running December 3-January 5. This new version features reimagined sets and costumes by original designer Lez Brotherston, with new lighting by Paule Constable.

Sting will bring a new production of his musical The Last Ship, featuring a revised book and direction by Lorne Campbell, to the Ahmanson, January 14-February 16. Sting will take on the role of Jackie White in the staging, with orchestrations by Rob Mathes, musical direction by Richard John, costume design by Molly Einchcomb, movement direction by Lucy Hind, lighting design by Matt Daw, sound design by Seb Frost, and dramaturgy by Selma Dimitrijevic. The original script is by John Logan and Brian Yorkey.

Next up are a pair of touring productions: Trey Parker, Robert Lopez, and Matt Stone's The Book of Mormon, codirected and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw, and codirected by Parker (February 18-March 29), and Michael Arden's Tony-winning revival of Ahrens and Flaherty's Once on This Island, with choreography by Camille A. Brown (April 7-May 10).

An additional title will be announced in the coming months.

The previously announced production of Harvey Fierstein's Torch Song, featuring by Michael Urie, will not be a part of the 2019-2020 season
at the Ahmanson Theatre.
