Miami New Drama's 10th Anniversary Season Will Include Four World Premieres

Miami New Drama, the not-for-profit theater company founded by playwright and director Michel Hausmann, has announced the shows for its 10th anniversary season.

The season will include four world premieres along with a 10th-anniversary production of Hausmann’s original musical The Golem of Havana (January 28, 2027-February 28, 2027), which was the first production to premiere at the theater company when it launched at the Colony Theatre.

The season will kick off with the world premiere of Ghandi and the Jew (November 5-29) by Harley Elias and directed by Margot Bordelon, the third play in Miami New Drama’s Jewish Play Initiative, which launched in 2025 with Jonathan Spector’s Birthright. Drawn from multiple journeys to South Africa and hundreds of unpublished letters, Gandhi and the Jew uncovers an unlikely relationship between Mahatma Gandhi and Hermann Kallenbach, a Jewish architect shaped by exile and persecution.

The Great Behind (April 1-25, 2027) is a world premiere comedy by Carmen Pelaez that is a reinvention of Cyrano de Bergerac. Sylvia is a brilliant Miami librarian with a lethal tongue, a body everyone notices but no one truly sees, and a secret: she is hopelessly in love with her best friend, who falls for Sylvia’s beautiful new co-worker.

Next up is City Hall (dates TBA), an immersive theater experience conceived by Hausmann and written by Aurin Squire. Performed inside a real city hall, City Hall transforms the audience into the electorate, live voting on the city’s future, as rising seas threaten to swallow the city and a billionaire developer offers the solution the city cannot afford.

The final world premiere in the season is Cianuro Espumante (July 8, 2027-August 1, 2027) by Karin Valecillos, the first authorized direct Spanish-language adaptation of one of Agatha Christie’s mysteries.
