Paul Nicholas to Play Pirate King in U.K. Pirates of Penzance Tour

Paul Nicholas will play the Pirate King in Carl Rosa Opera Company’s production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance, which launches a new U.K. tour from the Theatre Royal Brighton on April 7, according to a report on Whatsonstage.com. Following Brighton, the operetta will play Bromley, Bath, Milton Keynes, Newcastle, Truro and Sheffield, where the tour concludes on June 12.

Nicholas has previously played the part, most notably in the West End engagement of the New York Shakespeare Festival production, which was seen at the London Palladium in 1990. The performer also appeared as Jack Point in the company’s production of The Yeomen of the Guard at the Tower of London. His other West End credits include Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar, Grease, and Charlie Girl. Nicholas may be best known from his portrayal of Vince on the BBC sitcom Just Good Friends.
