The musical-theater icons had a candid conversation backstage at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.
There was a meeting of the musical-theater minds on September 1 when legendary Broadway songwriter John Kander visited Lin-Manuel Miranda backstage at the Richard Rodgers Theatre following the performance of Miranda's acclaimed Hamilton.
Hamilton, featuring book and score by Miranda and direction by Thomas Kail, began performances at the Rodgers on July 13, with opening night on August 6. Inspired Ron Chernow's biography Alexander Hamilton, the musical explores the life of the American Founding Father. It played an acclaimed, Drama Desk Award-winning run at the Public Theater earlier this year.
Kander is the coauthor of the musicals The Visit, which played on Broadway this past spring, Cabaret, Chicago, Curtains, The Scottsboro Boys, and several others. He is the recipient of three Tony Awards, two Emmys, and a pair of Grammys.
