Tony Award winner Hugh Jackman, who will return to Broadway this season in the two-hander A Steady Rain, will star as P.T. Barnum in a new film musical, The Greatest Showman on Earth, according to Variety. The trade paper also reports that the role of songbird Jennie Lind is being written for Anne Hathaway.
As previously reported, Jackman is also set for the the film Unbound Captives, to be written and directed by Madeline Stowe and co-starring Rachel Weisz and Robert Pattinson. In addition, Jackman has plans to play Billy Bigelow in a new film adaptation of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, Carousel; is developing a sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and plans to star in the films Personal Security, Drive, and Ghostopolis.
Jackman won the Tony for his portrayal of the late singer Peter Allen in The Boy From Oz and starred in the London revival of Oklahoma! His other film credits include the Australia, The Prestige, and The Fountain.
