Harvey Fierstein, Judy Kuhn, and More to Appear at New York Pops' Alan Menken Gala

Whoopi Goldberg, Audra McDonald, and Tim Rice will be honorary cochairs at this celebration of the orchestra’s 35th birthday.

The New York Pops, led by music director and conductor Steven Reineke, announced an initial lineup of guest artists as well as the honorary cochairs for its 35th birthday gala, Part of His World: The Songs of Alan Menken, on Monday, April 30, at 7pm in Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage.

All of the guest artists have played pivotal roles performing and working with Menken. They include Once on This Island director Michael Arden (who played Quasimodo in Paper Mill Playhouse's production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame), Roger Bart (the singing voice of young Hercules in the Disney film Hercules), Jodi Benson (Ariel in The Little Mermaid), Ashley Brown (Belle in the Broadway production of Beauty and the Beast), Nick Cordero (Sonny in A Bronx Tale — The Musical), Susan Egan (the original Belle in Beauty and the Beast on Broadway, Meg in Hercules), Harvey Fierstein (book writer for the Broadway production of Newsies), James Monroe Iglehart (the original Genie in the Broadway production of Aladdin), Adam Jacobs (the title role in the original cast of Aladdin on Broadway), Judy Kuhn (the singing voice of the title role in Pocahontas), and Patina Miller (Deloris Van Cartier in the original Broadway and London casts of Sister Act). More guest artists will be announced later.

The honorary cochairs of the event will include Ashley Brown, Whoopi Goldberg, Jeremy Jordan, Audra McDonald, Tim Rice, and Bernard Telsey.
