Cirque du Soleil Returns to New York with New Show, April 24

Following a tour of North America, the internationally acclaimed Cirque du Soleil will be returning to New York after a two year absence with its new production, Varekai, beginning performances on Thursday, April 24.

The show — conceived by a new creative team including Dominic Champagne (writer and director), Andrew Watson (director of creation), Violaine Corradi (composer), and Michael Montanaro and Bill Shannon (choreographers) — includes over 50 artists and cast members from 13 countries. It tells the story of a young man dropped from the sky to explore the world of Varekai, a land of undiluted possibility located deep within a forest at the summit of a volcano.

The production’s limited engagement begins April 24 under the Grand Chapiteau on Randall’s Island in Manhattan’s East River.
