2006 Laurence Olivier Award Winners Announced

Billy Elliot, Guys and Dolls, and Hedda Gabler were among the big winners of this year's Laurence Olivier Awards, which were announced in London on February 26.

Billy Elliot, the musical version of the popular film, took home four awards, including Best New Musical, Best Actor (shared by leads James Lomas, George Maguire, and Liam Mower), Best Choreographer (Peter Darling), and Best Sound Design. Guys and Dolls was named Outstanding Musical Production, and star Jane Krakowski was named Best Actress in a Musical. Hedda Gabler was named Best Revival, and took home trophies for director Richard Eyre, actress Eve Best, and set designer Rob Howell.

Other acting winners included Brian Dennehy for Death of a Salesman, Celia Imrie for Acorn Antiques -- the Musical, and Noma Dumezweni for A Raisin in the Sun. Simon Stephen's On the Shore of the Wide World was named Best New Play; Gerald Sibleyras' Heroes was named Best New Comedy, and Something Wicked This Way Comes was named Best Entertainment.
