Lee Blessing, David Greig, Diana Son et al. Contribute to Tricycle Theatre’s The Bomb

Lee Blessing, Ryan Craig, John Donnelly, David Greig, Elena Gremina, Amit Gupta, Zinnie Harris, Ron Hutchinson, Diana Son, and Colin Teevan have been commissioned by London’s Tricycle Theatre to create The Bomb – A Partial History in Two Parts, which will premiere at the theater February 9-April 1.

The piece traces the political history of the Nuclear Bomb from 1940 to present-day Nuclear proliferation and its implications for the world now. In conjunction with the production, the Tricycle will also be hosting a festival The Tricycle Goes Nuclear, which will include films, talks, discussions, an education program, and exhibitions.

In related news, The Tricycle Theatre has announced the remainder of its 2011-2012 season, which will be the final one under the leadership of Nicolas Kent, who as previously reported, will step down as artistic director in March 2012.

Kent will direct the world premiere of The Riots (November 17-December 10), by Gillian Slovo, drawn from spoken evidence. From tweets by taxi drivers, to moment-by-moment accounts by riot police, it will build a real-time picture of the riots as they unfolded, and also include interviews analyzing the situation.

The season will also include Marie Jones’ multi-award winning comedy Stones in His Pockets (December 15-February 4), directed by Indhu Rubasingham. Set in County Kerry, Ireland, it depicts a rural community turned upside down by the arrival of an American film crew on location to capture ‘real’ Ireland for their latest Hollywood blockbuster. Designs are by Rosa Maggiora with lighting by Malcolm Rippeth and sound by David McSeveney.
