Buena Vista Social Club Welcomes MLB Player and Latin Pop Singer José "Candelita" Iglesias

Major League Baseball veteran and recording artist José Iglesias, known in the music industry as Candelita, will make history as the first Latino MLB player to debut on Broadway when he joins the cast of Buena Vista Social Club on Thursday, August 27, as the Narrator, for six weeks only.

Born in Cuba, Iglesias joins the Tony- and Grammy Award-winning Afro-Cuban band onstage at the Schoenfeld Theatre. Inspired by true events, the musical brings the 1997 Grammy Award-winning album to life.

The cast of Buena Vista Social Club currently includes Tony Award winner Natalie Venetia Belcon as Omara, Rick Negron as Compay, Mel Semé as Ibrahim, Jainardo Batista Sterling as Rubén, Isa Antonetti as Young Omara, Da’Von T. Moody as Young Compay, Jaleel Battles Jr. as Young Ibrahim, Jesús Pupo as Young Rubén, Renesito Avich as Eliades, Ashley De La Rosa as Young Haydee, Chris Myers as Juan de Marcos, Angélica Beliard, Adriel Flete, Joshua Gonzalez, Jacob Guzman, Héctor Juan Maisonet, Brian M. Love, Ilda Mason, Marielys Molina, Sophia Ramos, Clinton Roane, Anthony Santos, Malcolm Miles Young, and Tanairi Sade Vazquez.

Featuring a book by Tony nominee Marco Ramirez, Buena Vista Social Club is directed by Tony nominee Saheem Ali and choreographed by Tony Award winners Patricia Delgado and Justin Peck. David Yazbek is the creative consultant. Music supervision is by Dean Sharenow, with orchestrations, arrangements and music direction by Tony Award winner Marco Paguia, additional arrangements by Javier Diaz and David Oquendo, and music consultation by Juan de Marcos.
