The Ferryman is set in rural Northern Ireland in 1981. The Carney farmhouse is a hive of activity with preparations for the annual harvest. A day of hard work on the land and a traditional night of feasting and celebrations lie ahead. But this year they will be interrupted by a visitor. The production earned Tonys for Best Play, Best Director (Sam Mendes), and Best Scenic and Costume Design (both for Rob Howell).

The Ferryman opened at London's Royal Court in May 2017 before transferring to the Gielgud, where it ended its thrice-extended, yearlong run on May 19, 2018. The production opened on Broadway on October 21, 2018, featuring original London stars Paddy Considine (Tony nomination), Laura Donnelly (Tony nomination), and Genevieve O'Reilly.
