Annie Baker's 2014 Pulitzer Prize-winning play The Flick begins performances tonight at Signature Theatre. Joe Calarco directs.

Avery, Rose, and Sam work at the Flick, a rundown movie theater in Massachusetts. The three underpaid employees bond as they sweep up popcorn, mop spilled soda, and tend to the movie projector. Through their everyday conversations, they explore the poignancy of life as they share their hopes, fears, and heartbreaks.

The Flick features Thaddeus McCants as Avery, Laura C. Harris as Rose, Evan Casey as Sam, and William Vaughan as Dreaming Man/Skylar.

"Annie Baker's play has been a phenomenon since it first premiered and won the Pulitzer Prize," said Joe Calarco, Signature Theatre's director of new works. "Her groundbreaking exploration of the everyday, seemingly mundane details of working-class life has polarized audiences and transformed what we call 'realism' and 'naturalism' into a kind of hilarious and heartbreaking poetry."

The creative team includes James Kronzer (set design), Andrew Cissna (lighting design), Frank Labovitz (costume design), Eric Shimelonis (sound design), and Julie Meyer (stage manager).

Performances will run through April 17.
