Nearly 50 years since it first shook up Broadway, Bye Bye Birdie remains one of the most smile-inducing musicals to ever hit the stage. So, it’s no surprise that the Roundabout Theatre Company chose the first-ever Great White Way revival of this beloved tuner to inaugurate its reopened Henry Miller Theater. At a recent press rehearsal, TheaterMania spoke with the show’s stars — John Stamos, Gina Gershon, Jayne Houdyshell, Bill Irwin, Dee Hoty, and Nolan Gerard Funk — as well as choreographer and director Robert Longbottom, composer Charles Strouse, and lyricist Lee Adams about what makes Birdie fly.
