The world premiere of Rain, a new musical from composer Michael John LaChiusa and book writer Sybille Pearson, opened April 1 at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego. Based on the short story by Somerset Maugham, the production will run through May 1.
The story follows a group of people stranded in a hotel on Western Samoa in 1924 who are scandalized with the arrival of Sadie, a prostitute. When a missionary sets out to reform her, his secrets are slowly revealed. The cast of Rain is led by Broadway's Eden Espinosa (Wicked) as Sadie Thompson.
