Watch Eden Espinosa Take the Stage in Michael John LaChiusa's Rain

The world premiere of Rain, a new musical from composer Michael John LaChiusa and book writer Sybille Pearson, opened April 1 at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego. Based on the short story by Somerset Maugham, the production will run through May 1.

The story follows a group of people stranded in a hotel on Western Samoa in 1924 who are scandalized with the arrival of Sadie, a prostitute. When a missionary sets out to reform her, his secrets are slowly revealed. The cast of Rain is led by Broadway's Eden Espinosa (Wicked) as Sadie Thompson. Watch her in the footage below as she takes on the role, which has been played on-screen by the likes of Gloria Swanson, Rita Hayworth, and Joan Crawford.
