Tyler Perry to Write and Direct For Colored Girls… Film

Tyler Perry has been signed to write, direct, and produce an adaptation of Ntozake Shange’s award-winning 1975 play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf, according to Variety. No casting has been announced.

The play, which has been scheduled to receive a Broadway revival last season, is a series of 20 poems telling stories of love, abandonment, domestic abuse, and other issues faced by black women.

Perry is well-known for his many plays, films, and television series. His latest movie, Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All by Myself, which stars Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson, is set to open on September 11.
