The Hypocrites Lead in Non-Equity Jeff Awards Nominations

The Chicago awards name the 2015 contenders.

The Jeff Awards Committee have announced the 2015 nominees for the 42nd Annual Non-Equity Jeff Awards. There are a total of 118 nominations in 24 categories, recognizing the work of Chicago theaters not under a union contract.

The Hypocrites, with a mix of musicals and plays, lead the pack with 15 nominations. The company's production of All Our Tragic, an epic 12-hour adaptation of the 32 surviving Greek tragedies, scheduled to return in the summer of 2015, earned 10 nominations alone. Its mounting of Samuel Beckett’s Endgame earned three nominations while H.M.S. Pinafore picked up two.

The Griffin Theatre Company and Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre are also strongly represented, with 14 nominations each. The Griffin Theatre Company's chamber version of the Tony-winning musical Titanic garnered six nominations, with five going to Balm in Gilead, and three for Men Should Weep. Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre was recognized with six nominations for its production of Jesus Christ Superstar, four nominations for Always…Patsy Cline, three for A Kurt Weill Cabaret, and one for A Musical Tribute to the Andrews Sisters.

The Non-Equity Jeff Awards ceremony will be held on Monday, June 8 at Park West in Chicago. Chicago actor Karl Hamilton will emcee the festivities alongside Chicago actress and Jeff nominee Sarah Hayes, an artistic associate at Porchlight Music Theatre.
