As previously reported, the film, which is being directed by Marc Webb, will also feature Campbell Scott as Peter’s father, Martin Sheen as Peter’s Uncle Ben, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, and Rhys Ifans as an as-yet-unnamed villain.
The film is based on the Marvel Comics character, which is also the inspiration for the new Broadway musical, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.
Garfield’s stage credits include Beautiful Thing and The Overwhelming. His additional film credits include The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and The Social Network, and he was recently announced to be a finalist for BAFTA’s 2011 Rising Star Award.
