Smokey Joe’s Café: The Songs of Leiber and Stoller recently closed on Broadway, but the Broadway Television Network will see to it that the show lives on. With their new Live From Broadway, One Night Only pay-per-view series, on September 10 television viewers from around the world will get to see the hit Broadway show, which was taped by BTN at its final performance.

Smokey Joe’s Café had the distinction of being the longest-running musical revue on Broadway. The show also reached many others through a highly successful national tour. Its premiere via pay-per-view will make Smokey Joe’s the first of twelve acclaimed productions that will air under the Live From Broadway, One Night Only banner over the next five years. Each of these productions was either taped from a live performance or will actually be aired live, and all are shown in high-definition and surround sound.

With the Live From Broadway series, the recently formed Broadway Television Network is fulfilling its goal of bringing the live theater experience into people’s homes. “Now we can begin to bring the magic, thrill and excitement of today’s best Broadway musicals to homes across America and throughout the world,” said BTN’s president and CEO, Bruce Brandwen.

Smokey Joe’s Café: The Songs of Leiber and Stoller is scheduled to be distributed through iN DEMAND, DirecTV (in the U.S. and Latin America) and Echo Star’s DBS services, TVN/Cablevision, and Viewer’s Choice and Bell Expressvu (in Canada). The cost to view will be $24.95. Smokey Joe’s Café will air at 9:00pm (Eastern time), but at 8:30 there is a free pre-show, “On the Aisle At…,” featuring interviews with the show’s cast and crew.
