Mothers and Sons, Starring Tyne Daly, Opens Tonight on Broadway

In this time of musicals, revivals, and Shakespeare, there aren't many opportunities to see a new American play on Broadway. Luckily, just such an opportunity begins tonight when Mothers and Sons opens at the John Golden Theatre. Written by four-time Tony-winning author Terrence McNally (Love! Valour! Compassion!), the play stars Tony Award winner Tyne Daly (Gypsy) as Katharine Gerard. Sheryl Kaller directs.

Katharine's son died of AIDS 20 years ago. Still stricken with grief, she makes a surprise visit to the home of her son's ex-lover, Cal (Frederick Weller). Cal is now a successful money manager living on the Upper West Side of Manhattan with his husband, Will (Bobby Steggert), and their son, Bud (Grayson Taylor). Confronted with the richness of Cal's life in a much-changed America, Katharine is forced to come to terms with the injustice of her son's premature death.
