Katie Leung to Star in World Premiere of Wild Swans

Casting has been announced for playwright Alexandra Wood’s adaptation of Wild Swans, to premiere at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts, February 11-March 11, to be followed by a run at the Young Vic, April 13-May 3 as part of World Stages London. Sacha Wares will direct.

Based on Jung Chang’s autobiography, the play tells the story of China in the 20th century — from the early days of Communist hope and struggle, through the chaos and confusion of Mao’s Cultural Revolution, to the birth of a superpower — through the eyes of one fiercely courageous family.

Katie Leung, best known as Cho Chang in the Harry Potter films, will play Er-Hong, the character based on Jung Chang, with the cast also including Oliver Biles as Jian, Eric Chan as Dr. Wan, Annie Chang as Dai, Ka-Ling Cheung as De-Hong, Victor Chi as Heng, Celeste Den as Ting, Joanne Fong as Huifen, Jon Kit Lee as Bo Lin, Orion Lee as Shou-Yu, Jennifer Lim as Mrs. Shu, Les Mau as Comrade Chi, Ron Nakahara as Commissar Lin, Zenghui Qui as a musician and ensemble member, and Julyana Soelistyo as Yu Fang.

The production will feature designs by Miriam Buether, with video designs by Wang GongXin, costume design by Tom Rand, sound design by Gareth Fry, lighting design by D M Wood, choreography by Leon Baugh, projections by Tim Reid, and music by Zenghui Qiu.
