
The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) has announced the company that will perform the three productions that it will premiere at its facilities in Stratford-upon-Avon and then, present as part of the World Shakespeare Festival. As previously announced, the event, to be offered as part of the Cultural Olympiad in 2012, will involve over 50 arts organizations and run April 13-September 9.
The plays in the RSC repertory for the Festival will be Amir Nizar Zuabi’s production The Comedy of Errors, as well as Twelfth Night, and The Tempest, both of which will be directed by David Farr.
The cast for The Comedy of Errors will feature Sarah Belcher (Luce), Amie Burns Walker (Courtesan), Kirsty Bushell (Adrianna), Nicholas Day (Egeon), Sandy Grierson (Solinus), Stephen Hagan (Antipholus of Ephesus), Felix Hayes (Dromio of Ephesus), Amer Hlehel (Balthazar), Jan Knightley (First Merchant), Bruce Mackinnon (Dromio of Syracuse), Jonathan McGuinness (Antipholus of Syracuse), Kevin McMonagle (Second Merchant), Cecilia Noble (Abbess), Jonathan Slinger (Dr Pinch), Emily Taaffe (Luciana) and Sargon Yelda (Angelo), along with Ankur Bahl and Solomon Israel. The production will run March 16 – May 14 and July 16 – October 6 at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. The work will be seen at London’s Roundhouse June 1 – July 14.
Running March 8 -May 15 and July 12 -October 6 in Stratford, Twelfth Night will feature Bahl as Curio, Belcher as Chambermaid, Burns Walker as Chambermaid, Bushell as Olivia, Day as Sir Toby Belch, Grierson as Captain, Hagan as Sebastian, Hayes as Fabian, Hlehel as Security Guard, Israel as Officer. Knightley as Antonio, Mackinnon as Sir Andrew Aguecheek, McGuinness as Orsino, McMonagle as Feste, Noble as Maria, Slinger as Malvolio, Taaffe as Viola, and Yelda as Valentine. The company will perform in London June 5 – July 5.
The Tempest, to be seen Stratford March 30 – May 19 and July 13 – October 7, and in London June 9 – July 5 will feature Bahl as Spirit, Belcher as Spirit, Burns Walker Spirit, Bushell as Sebastian, Day as Gonzalo, Grierson as Ariel, Hagan as Francisco, Hayes as Trinculo, Hlehel as Caliban, Israel as Ferdinand, Knightley as Boatswain/Spirit, Mackinnon as Stephano, McGuinness as Antonio, McMonagle as Alonso, Noble as Spirit, Slinger as Prospero, Taaffe as Miranda, and Sargon Yelda (Adrian).
The creative team for all three productions will be production designer Jon Bausor, lighting designer Jon Clark, and sound designer Christopher Shutt .
