The Public Theater production of Shakespeare’s tragedy is adapted by Tarrel Alvin McCraney.
Tarell Alvin McCraney's new version of Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra, an international collaboration between the Royal Shakespeare Company and Miami's GableStage that is currently running at The Public Theater's Anspacher Theater, celebrated its opening night on March 5. Starring Jonathan Cake and Joaquina Kalukango in the title roles, the production resets Shakespeare's drama in 18th century Saint-Domingue on the eve of revolution. Joining Cake and Kalukango in the company are a mixture of American and British actors including Charise Castro Smith, Ian Lassiter, Chivas Michael, Henry Stram, Samuel Collings, Ash Hunter, Chukwudi Iwuji, and Sarah Niles.
