Stage and screen star John Malkovich will star opposite Bruce Willis in the forthcoming film Red, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Robert Schwenke is set to direct the motion picture, based on the Wildstorm/DC comic book miniseries of the same name.
The movie centers on a retired black-ops agent (played by Willis), with Malkovich (replacing John C. Reilly, who exited the role in December) playing the part of a retired CIA agent.
The film will also include a number of other stage veterans, such as Brian Cox, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, Mary-Louise Parker, and Richard Dreyfuss, along with Ernest Borgnine and Julian McMahon. The production is scheduled to begin principal photography this week in Toronto.
Malkovich is a member of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company and starred in the original production of True West. He also starred in the Broadway production of Burn This, with additional stage credits including The Caretaker, Arms and the Man, and Death of a Salesman. He received Oscar nominations for his work in In the Line of Fire and Places in the Heart.
