The FDNY extinguished a three-alarm fire at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre on Monday.

The producers of The Book of Mormon and ATG Entertainment, which owns at operates the Eugene O’Neill Theatre, have announced that performances of the hit Broadway musical will be canceled through May 17.
This is the result of a three-alarm fire at the O’Neill Monday morning which left one firefighter with minor injuries. All theater staff are safe and accounted for (The Book of Mormon does not perform on Mondays). The FDNY extinguished the fire, which was declared under control shortly after noon.
According to an official statement, the fire was limited to the follow spot booth (a lighting booth near the top of the house) and the exact cause is unknown.
“ATG Entertainment and The Book of Mormon extend their deepest thanks to the firefighters and emergency responders for their bravery and speedy response,” the statement reads, adding that they are “currently working with a team of industry professionals to begin repairs needed to the building.”
Ticket holders for impacted performances will be notified via their point of purchase to receive refunds or reschedule.
The 2011 Tony Award winner for Best Musical, The Book of Mormon recently celebrated 15 years since it opened on Broadway. A week of special performances with original cast members had been announced for the week of June 9-14. It is unclear whether the theater will be ready to receive audiences by then, although the latest press statement says that performances are “anticipated to resume at the Eugene O’Neill in the coming weeks.”
