The Lion King Welcomes a New Young Nala to the Cast

Camilla Lockhart makes her Broadway debut tonight, August 18, as Young Nala in The Lion King at the Minskoff Theatre. Lockhart will alternate performances with current cast member Emma Origenes. Andrea Guzman played her final performance in the role on August 16. Caleb Beltran and Firo Oliva continue alternating the role of Young Simba.

Based on the 1994 Disney animated film, The Lion King premiered on Broadway in November, 1997. It won six 1998 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The musical was conceived and directed by Julie Taymor, who is also the costume designer and mask co-designer. The score features Elton John and Tim Rice’s songs from the film, along with new songs by John and Rice and additional musical material by Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, Julie Taymor, and Hans Zimmer. The book is by Roger Allers, who co-directed the animated movie, and Irene Mecchi, who co-wrote the film’s screenplay.
