Jessica Lange and Ed Harris to Star in New Film Version of Long Day's Journey Into Night

According to a Deadline report, a new film adaptation of Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning Long Day's Journey Into Night — starring two-time Oscar winner Jessica Lange and four-time Oscar nominee Ed Harris as Mary and James Tyrone — is in the works. The cast also features Ben Foster (Hell or High Water) as their eldest son Jamie while Colin Morgan (Belfast) plays their younger son Edmund. Filming has wrapped for the project with no news yet of a release date.
David Lindsay-Abaire (Kimberly Akimbo) penned the screen adaptation of O'Neill's classic play, while British theater and opera director Jonathan Kent returns to the piece after directing the 2016 Broadway revival, which also starred Jessica Lange in a Tony-winning performance.
O'Neill's semiautobiographical play pulls back the curtain on the Connecticut home of the Tyrone family, where deep-seated resentments and bourbon-fueled tirades cause a family to expose their darkest natures. He paints the powerful and heartrending portrait of a single day that begins as any other, only to become a night from which they will never recover.
The film's director of photography is Mark Wolf with production design by Anna Rackard and costume design by Joan Bergin and Jane Greenwood, who earned a Tony nomination for her costume design of Kent's 2016 Broadway revival.
Previous film adaptations of Long Day's Journey Into Night include Sidney Lumet's 1962 version starring Katharine Hepburn, Ralph Richardson, Jason Robards, and Dean Stockwell; and Jonathan Miller's 1987 TV movie starring Bethel Leslie, Jack Lemmon, Kevin Spacey, and Peter Gallagher.
