Grey's Anatomy's Jesse Williams to Star in Broadway Revival of Take Me Out

Actor and activist Jesse Williams will make his Broadway debut as Darren Lemming in Second Stage Theater's upcoming revival of Richard Greenberg's Tony-winning Take Me Out. Scott Ellis's production will begin performances April 2, 2020 at the Helen Hayes Theater, with opening night scheduled for April 23.
Williams plays Dr. Jackson Avery on ABC's Grey's Anatomy. His acting credits also include The Butler and The Cabin in the Woods. As a producer, he worked on the EPIX series America Divided and Stay Woke: The Black Lives Matter Movement, and serves as executive producer on the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture's permanent exhibition Question Bridge: Black Males. He is the youngest member to sit on the Board of Directors for both Advancement Project, a leading national civil rights advocacy organization; and Harry Belafonte's arts and social justice organization, Sankofa.org.
In Take Me Out, when Darren Lemming (Williams), the star center fielder for the Empires, comes out of the closet, the reception off the field reveals a barrage of long-held unspoken prejudices. Facing some hostile teammates and fraught friendships, Darren is forced to contend with the challenges of being a gay person of color within the confines of a classic American institution. As the Empires struggle to rally toward a championship season, the players and their fans begin to question tradition, their loyalties, and the price of victory.
