Douglas Smith and Emma Ramos to Star in Off-Broadway Premiere of Machine Learning

Little Engine Theater, a company dedicated to staging international plays in unconventional settings, has announced the world premiere of Machine Learning by Australian playwright Kate Vozella.

The production will star Douglas Smith and Emma Ramos, and it will be directed by Irish director Colm Summers.

Machine Learning will run October 6-30 at Manhattan Neighborhood Network, located at 509 West 38th Street,. Opening is set for October 20.

In the play, two couples enter a research program at a remote facility, believing their interactions will help train humanoid companions in human intimacy. As the experiment unfolds, however, the participants are forced to confront their own patterns, secrets, and vulnerabilities. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.

The creative team for Machine Learning includes Tyler Herald (set design), Karen Boyer (costume design), Christopher Wong (lighting design), Liam Bellman-Sharpe (sound design), Leia Squillace (production manager), and Mary Garrigan (stage manager).

Smith is known for his television work in HBO’s Big Little Lies and Big Love. Ramos has appeared on NBC’s New Amsterdam and recently starred in TFANA’s production of Coriolanus.
