Tony winner Mary Zimmerman directs the 1953 musical.
Wonderful Town begins performances tonight at Goodman Theatre.
The musical is a song-and-dance filled ode to New York City that finds Ruth, an aspiring journalist, and her sister Eileen, a bombshell actress, leaving Ohio determined to conquer Manhattan. Roughing it in a dingy basement apartment isn’t quite how the sisters imagined living, but they can’t resist the city’s bustling energy and soon find their professional and romantic hopes coming true. The musical features music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, and a book from Joseph A. Fields and Jerome Chodorov.
Leading the cast are Lauren Molina and Bri Sudia. Joining them are Karl Hamilton, Wade Elkins, Steven Strafford, Jordan Brown, Amy J. Carle, Matt DeCaro, Christina Hall, James Earl Jones II, Kristin Villanueva, and George Andrew Wolff. Tony winner Mary Zimmerman directs.
The creative team includes music director Doug Peck, associate music director/conductor Ben Johnson, choreographer Alex Sanchez, set designer Todd Rosenthal, costume designer Ana Kuzmanic, lighting designer T.J. Gerckens, and sound designer Ray Nardelli.
Completing the ensemble is Nathaniel Braga, Ariana Cappuccitti, Sherriese Hamilton, Aaron Holland, Mark David Kaplan, Tiffany Krause, Kent M. Lewis, Russell Mernagh, Jeff Parker, Jody Reynard, Todd Rhoades, Lainie Sakakura, Ian Saunders, and Erica
Stephan.
