Stars, playwrights, producers, and directors from Albee’s career were on hand to honor the iconic playwright at Sardi’s.
The iconic theater-district eatery Sardi's honored legendary playwright Edward Albee with a portrait for its walls during a ceremony on Sunday, March 13.
The event was hosted by producers Elizabeth I. McCann and Daryl Roth, as well as veteran publicist Sam Rudy. Though Albee himself was unable to attend, the gathering drew a large assortment of actors, directors, producers, and fellow playwrights with whom he has worked: Angela Lansbury (All Over and Counting the Ways); Kathleen Turner and Bill Irwin (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?), Mercedes Ruehl (The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia? and Occupant), Pam MacKinnon (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and A Delicate Balance), Jordan Baker (Three Tall Women), Terrence McNally, André Bishop, and many others.
Albee's many plays include The Zoo Story (1959), Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966), A Delicate Balance (1967), Seascape (1975), Three Tall Women (1994), and The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia? (2002), among many others. He is the recipient of three Pulitzer Prizes and two Tony Awards for Best Play.
