Ernest Shackleton Loves Me, a new musical, starts performances tonight at George Street Playhouse. The play centers on a struggling single mom who composes video game music. Her whole world changes when she is contacted by the famous polar explorer Ernest Shackleton. Through her music, with the help of video and song, he shares his Antarctic adventures with her. The time-defying love affair helps both conquer new horizons in life, as the two actors accompany themselves onstage with the use of keyboards, drum machines, sound loopers, electric violins, and an acoustic banjo.

The musical’s book is by Tony winner Joe DiPietro, with music and lyrics by Brendan Milburn and Valerie Vigoda. The production is directed by Lisa Peterson and features Valerie Vigoda and Wade McCollum in the cast.

Performances will run through May 17.
