David Sefton has resigned from UCLA Live, after serving for nearly 10 years as the organization’s executive and artistic director, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times. UCLA Live brings leading dance, classical music, jazz, world and pop music and touring theater companies to the campus.
Sefton tendered his resignation in a meeting Monday with Christopher Waterman, dean of the arts and architecture school. Waterman will be interim director of the program, while Sefton may assume a role as arts advisor.
During his tenure, Sefton programmed such works as 4.48 Psychosis, starring Isabelle Huppery and King Lear, starring Ian McKellen, the final Los Angeles appearance of German choreographer Pina Bausch and her company, and a production of Woyzeck, with music by Tom Waits and direction by Robert Wilson.
The 2010-11 season, which will be announced next month, has already been booked.
