Danielle Brooks and Isaiah Johnson Play Final Performances in The Color Purple

Tony nominee Danielle Brooks and Broadway vet Isaiah Johnson will play their final performances in the Tony-winning Broadway revival of The Color Purple today. Beginning November 15, Carrie Compere will step in to replace Brooks in the role of Sofia, with Nathaniel Stampley taking on the role of Mister. Compere, a longtime ensemble member of the production, opened the show as one of the Church Ladies.
They join a cast headed by Tony winners Cynthia Erivo as Celie and Jennifer Holliday as Shug Avery, as well as Jennie Harney as Nettie and Kyle Scatliffe as Harpo.
The Color Purple, which opened on December 10, 2015 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre, is adapted from the novel of the same name by Alice Walker. The musical features a book by Marsha Norman, with music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis, and Stephen Bray.
The company of The Color Purple also includes Phoenix Best, Dwayne Clark, Lawrence Clayton, Patrice Covington, J. Daughtry, Adrianna Hicks, Bre Jackson, Grasan Kingsberry, Kevin Mambo, Ken Robinson, Antoine L. Smith, Carla R. Stewart, Akron Watson, and Rema Webb.
