To toast their 10 Tony Award nominations, the cast and creative team of Broadway's Something Rotten! gathered outside the St. James Theatre to check out the venue's new celebratory signage.
Something Rotten!, which opened on April 22, received nods in the categories of Best Musical, Best Actor in a Musical (Brian d'Arcy James), Best Featured Actor in a Musical (Christian Borle and Brad Oscar), Best Director (Casey Nicholaw), Best Choreography (Nicholaw), Best Book of a Musical (Karey Kirkpatrick and John O'Farrell), Best Score (Karey Kirkpatrick and Wayne Kirkpatrick), Best Orchestrations (Larry Hochman), and Best Costume Design (Gregg Barnes).
A tribute to musical theater, Something Rotten! is set in 1590s England and follows Nick and Nigel Bottom, a pair of brothers desperate to write a play, but they're stuck in the shadow of William Shakespeare. When they're told by a local soothsayer that the future of theater involves, singing, dancing, and acting at the same time, they set out to write the world's first musical.
