Brandon Victor Dixon and Valisia LeKae will star as Berry Gordy and Diana Ross, respectively in Motown: The Musical, which will play Broadway’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre beginning March 11, 2013 with an opening set for April 14.
As previously reported, Charles Randolph-Wright will direct new musical about the life of Motown records founder Berry Gordy Jr., which will feature a book by Gordy himself, and music and lyrics from the Motown legendary catalogue.
Dixon received a Tony nomination for The Color Purple and a Drama Desk nomination for the Off-Broadway production of The Scottsboro Boys. LeKae’s previous Broadway credits include The Book of Mormon, Ragtime, 110 in the Shade and The Threepenny Opera.
Motown‘s creative team will feature scenic design by David Korins, costume design by ESosa, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Peter Hylenski and choreography by Patricia Wilcox and Warren Adams. The 18 piece orchestra will be supervised by Ethan Popp, who will reproduce the classic “Sound of Young America” for the Broadway stage.
Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
Tickets will go on sale exclusively to Citibank cardholders on Sunday, September 23, and will be available to the general public beginning Monday, October 1.
