New production photos of the production, set to open June 4, have been released.
Atlantic Theater Company's New York premiere of The Great Leap is set to open June 4 for its extended run through June 24. Taibi Magar directs playwright Lauren Yee's Atlantic Theater debut. See photos from the production in the gallery below.
The Great Leap features Ali Ahn (The Path), Ned Eisenberg (Six Degrees of Separation), Tony Aidan Vo (No-No Boy), and Tony Award winner B.D. Wong (Mr. Robot). The play is described as follows: "San Francisco, spring 1989. Manford Lum, locally renowned on the sidewalk basketball courts of Chinatown, talks his way onto a college team, just before they travel to Beijing for a 'friendship' game. When they arrive, China is in the throes of the post-Cultural Revolution era, and Manford must juggle international politics and his own personal history." It is loosely based on the life and short-lived basketball career of Yee's father.
This production features scenic design by Takeshi Kata, costume design by Tilly Grimes, lighting design by Eric Southern, sound and original compositions by Broken Chord, projection design by David Bengali, and movement direction by Jesse Perez.
