Young Jean Lee’s play makes its Broadway debut this summer.
The cast of Second Stage Theater's upcoming Broadway premiere of Young Jean Lee's Straight White Men met the press on Thursday, June 14. Directed by Anna D. Shapiro, the production begins previews Friday, June 29 at the Helen Hayes Thaeter, with opening night set for July 23.
In Straight White Men, "it's Christmas Eve, and Ed has gathered his three adult sons to celebrate with matching pajamas, trash-talking, and Chinese takeout. But when a question they can't answer interrupts their holiday cheer, they are forced to confront their own identities."
Making their Broadway debuts in the production are stars Armie Hammer, Josh Charles, Paul Schneider, Kate Bornstein, and Ty Defoe, with Tom Skerritt rounding out the cast. With Straight White Men, Lee will become the first Asian-American female playwright to be produced on Broadway.
Straight White Men has scenic design by Todd Rosenthal, costume design by Suttirat Larlarb, lighting design by Donald Holder, and sound design by M.L. Dogg.
